The Civil War Flags Message Board

Re: 23rd Tennessee flag captured

Ben,

The three flags I testified against were made in Bristol, TN by two brothers and sold as totally authentic.

As I told the police officers these all have similar provenance statements as follows:

1) "Bought at an estate sale." We wish that this many REAL CS flags would turn up!

2) "Sure looks old!"

3) "Passes the black light test."

4) "If it is not Civil War then it is a reunion flag."

The morons in Bristol refused to give the guy his money back so he prosecuted them. I did not hear again from Bristol PD but the next step after my expert testimony was grad jury indictments and the officer told me that even if they plead out they were looking at some $15,000-$20,000 in legal costs right there when all they needed to do was give the buyer his $3000 back!

Had they gone to trial they were not only looking at serious jail time but thousands upon thousands more in legal fees.
