Re: Confederate White Cross Flag - Magruder -1862

Greg
.. Just for curiousity this mentioned Charleston/Mercury flag. A flag in the MOC collection of the Charleston Light Infantry is of this simular patterned Red/White triangles, with the center shield. However instead of the sun-rays device in the center it has "CLI" and "Secessionville" painted upon the shield. This same flag belonged to a unit that later became part of the 27th SC Inf. I noted that the MOC flag was earlier misidentified to another unit that did not even participate in the June 1862 Battle of Secessionville. They had just accepted the claims that came with the flag when donated many years ago. I further researched it and provided then the documentation, soon thereafter they corrected the unit identification of it. I assume this flag was a variation of or at least influenced by this Charleston-Mercury design?
