Texas Flag book

&qid
I am aware that Gregg Biggs praised this book in passing on this forum a few years ago, but as a flag book collector I thought it needed to be noted again for our recent readers while it is still available. Texas Flags by Robert Maberry Jr. was published by Texas A&M University Press in association with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2001. While it covers the early Texas history up to WWI about half the chapters are devoted to the Confederate period. It is filled with over a hundred fine graphic illustrations and 32 "Texas sized" full page color flag plates of which fifteen belong to the Confederate era alone. If not all, most of the Confederate flag types are represented in flag plates, photographs, and illustrations including other Southern flags associated with the Lone Star. My favorite flag is a huge photograph of the 3rd Arkansas' 4th bunting issue ANV flag while serving with Hood's Texas Brigade. This cloth-bound coffee table size book is one of the finest you will see still in print. (Amazon link below). It is a must for any flag enthusiast.
