In Response To: 30th Louisiana Flag ()

Hello Stuart,

I am pretty sure this must be the flag made by a group of Mobile women and presented to the 30th La in May of 1864. This flag is depicted in Madaus' "The Battle Flags of the Confederate Army of Tennessee" as having the border, fimbrations, stars and unit designation in white. The flag is said to have been 47 X 52 inches in size. Madaus based his drawing on a photo and notes found in the collection of the Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans. However, in my own notes I have it that the border, fimbrations and stars were in gold and that the flag was attached to its staff by metal rings sewn to the flag's header.

May I ask, for my notes, what the source of your quote was. It is interesting as I was unaware that this flag had been captured.
