Ryan,
You were correct.
I visited the Confederate Memorial Hall on wednesday.
The displayed flag shows one metal ring (1" diameter)
attached to the hoist edge 5" above the bottom.
There is no other evidence showing method of attachment.
It is not certain whether this ring is war-time or not.
The conservator's report mentions nothing concerning
the method of attachment.
A 1990 inventory lists this flag as having a sleeve
attachment.
A 1950's photo reveals (under a magnifying glass) the
lone ring in question.
If the ring is indeed war-time; the missing companion
rings may have been lost when the flag was torn from its
staff.
I dont know how I missed it because its there plain as day!
