"Private Vollmer and his friend Sgt. Dennis Lynch got ahead of the rest of the Company k, in their dash for the Iowa State Stars and Stipes, Vollmer jammed his bayonet into the Yankee color-bearer, grabbed the flag and waved it over his head."
