6th LA Infantry, Co. D Flag

While researching one of my kinsmen who served in Co. D of the 6th Louisiana Infantry, I came across a circa 1895 newspaper article from St. Joseph, LA. The flag's description was provided by a veteran who served in that company.

It was described as being a hand-sewn "solid blue field bordered with gold fringe on three sides and, in the center, a white cotton bale with gold strapping. Below this bale was written in gold italics: "Tensas Rifles 1861".

The 6th LA Infantry served in the Army of Northern Virginia under Gen. Harry T. Hays' Louisiana "Tiger" Brigade, in Gen. Richard S. Ewell's Corps.
