Ben,
The 2nd National that you speak of was presented to the Battery in August 1864
by refugee New Orleans ladies then living in Richmond.
It was saved at Appomattox by William Ahern, former Color-Sgt of the Battery.
Ahern carried this flag to several reunions after the war. The flag was given
to the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond by Ahern in the later 1890's or early
1900's. The flag was still carried on the inventory of the Louisiana Room in 1955.
Sometime after 1955 the flag was stolen from the M.O.C. and still remains on the
open market today.
