Correction on "Vermont Brigades", should be "Vermont Regiments."

I have no idea what flag was captured on June 22nd, 1864. Very rare the Union commanders admitted to what flag they lost or any at all. If the Confederates did not mention what flags were captured, then its time for deep digging.

The 42nd New York's flag was captured on June 22nd, 1864. It was recaptured when Richmond fell. Many said it was the nicest flag in the collection, so it sounds to me that it was new (when captured.)

Many outstanding, Second Corps regiments lost flags during the Overland/Petersburg Campaigns. The 2nd Corps had the most casualties of all the Corps. The Second Corps also lost flags at the Wilderness, BG. Mahone reported that his brigade alone took several colors. On my maps, I believe they were... 1st Massachusetts Inf, 7th New Jersey and 115th Pennsylvania (all inf.) Those three regiments wheeled left to confront Mahone's brigade. So no doubt one or more of those regiments lost a color. Mahone, Wofford and G.T.Anderson brigades hit the Second Corps on the left flank.

Have a good night,
