You can tell that I subscribe to what you said (and even the pithier version above). I detest seeing the comical photos used in the mag (not so much the weightier guys in uniform as such things as the modern "palm down" salute). Of all pubs, CV should be dedicated to accuracy and to educating the membership accordingly. Your input was exactly what I want to see consistently. I know you're familiar with Carlton McCarthy's "Detailed Minutiae of Soldier Life in the ANV," and his statement that "It was not the flag of the Confederacy, but simply the banner, the battle-flag, of the Confederate soldier. As such, it should not share the condemnation which our cause received, or suffer from its downfall." He was a veteran of the Richmond Howitzers, and writing of the only battle-flag he knew and revered, but his point was (a) "preserve the little history connected with" flag origins, and (b) separate the battle-flag(s) from "the political significance which attaches to the CONFEDERATE flag." We certainly blew that aspect, didn't we!
