Pam - Gonzalez was killed in the same action as a Brig Genl RC Tyler (last genl staff officer killed in the war), who I've been very interested in for some time now. He was second-in-command at the post in West Point which was in the way of Wilson's Raid (Federal troops led by O.H. LaGrange). Gonzalez and Tyler are buried in a joint grave in the West Point Confederate Cemetery. Surprisingly little public knowledge or detail of Tyler or Gonzalez, especially of their roots.
