Joseph L. Sharrit served with Amos Sharrit for twelve months in Co. "B", 1th Florida Regiment. Afterwards J. L. Sharrit enlisted as a sergeant with James Sharrit in Co. "E", 8th Florida Regiment. That command served with the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee.
