Mathews and the Pensacola Observer and Ft. Pickens

L.H. Mathews was reporting for the Pensacola Observer about the time Ft. Sumpter was fired on. At the time General Bragg was planning to seize Ft. Pickens. Apparently, Mathews published something in the paper which appeared to Bragg to tip off the Federals of his intentions. Bragg had Mathews arrested for treason and sent to Montgomery for trial. Later, the charges were dropped and Mathews returned to Pensacola in time for the Confederate evacuation. He enlisted in the 1st Florida Infantry. The Confederate Secretary of War assigned Mathews as a hospital steward in Montgomery Hospitals for a year or two before he was ordered to rejoin his outfit which was then in Mississippi. After the war, Mathews published papers in Birmingham, Blount Springs, Blountsville, and Oneonta in North Alabama. He died in 1896.

Can someone direct me to where I can find more source material on Mathews, the incident, the charges, and the trial?
