Dale, Thanks for the response! I believe him to be the BARNES in Co. C. He is the only one who states that he was born in GA. I am pretty sure I found him after the war with his same pre-war wife and kids but under a different last name. Since he deserted, do you think it was a common practice to take a different last name to blend back in the community? How was it possible to desert after the war?
