Re: Capt. Leroy G. Lesley's Homeguard (Hernando)

As to Capt. Lesley, Jeff Cannon has uploaded a story about the History of Salt Springs and the Confederate Salt Works located near Port Richey, Pasco Co., FL. My gr. gr. gf, David Hope (Uncle to Capt. S. E. Hope, C Co., 9th) was involved in owning and operating this Salt Works. The link is:

David Hope was also a member of the Lesley's Co. and his son, William Maxey Hope was in the 1st Bttn Spcl Cav. William later lived near the Salt Works where the Post Office was known as Hopeville. The area later became known as Port Richey. In early January, 2008, they are posting a historical marker for the site based on Jeff Cannon's research.

Anyone else have information on the Salt Works? David Hope's grandson, Victor Malcolm Clark (my gf) was a Florida surveyor. In the mid to late 1940's he showed me the Salt Works, but I didn't know the signifance of the place then. I do now.
