Re: Confederate artillery complement at Fernandina

Robert Browning's "Success Is All that was Expected" states that 37 heavy caliber cannon were captured in the movement. It says that there were twenty two masked batteries in addition to the fort.

Wright's ORA report says "The ordnance captured here amounts to sixteen pieces in all, two having been found in a battery beyond the railroad bridge, which had not, however, been mounted. The battery was nearly completed."

CSA Brig. Gen. J.H. Trapier's report in the ORN, says 20 guns were lost--5 of them had been placed on St. John's bluff. He said there were originally 33, and 18 had been removed, but then five of those lost. Ser. 1, Vol 12, pg. 617,618.
