Confederate prisoners kept at Key West

Shortly before the battle of Ocean Pond at least one Confederate was wounded while escorting a wagon train in Northern Florida and taken prisoner. The Confederate in question was Henry Singleton of the Ga 29th Cav. Bn of Company C. Private Singleton was taken to Key West via US Navy and died there. A Union Captain would write his wife Elizabeth explaining of her husbands fate. Henry was buried in Key West and disinterred in 1927 along with many others and taken to Barrancas in Pensacola, Fl. Private Singleton's body is now marked as unknown in Pensacola. Thanks to this information we now can confirm that at least some Confederates were held as prisoners at Key West, Fl.
