I was struggling for just that sort of information comparing the 1860 and 1870 Censuses, breaking down the county (district) figures for S. C. by race and sex, just last week. It took me a lot longer to dig it out that I suspect tha UVA site will. Thanks again. Its amazing how much good information is out there; the trick is finding it, and, sometimes, sorting out the bad from the good. But I would trust a site put up by the Unviersity.
