In my opinion, 500 is a very conservative figure, considering the number of white males in the county in 1860 to be 2,757. Using only the number of males between the ages of 10 and 50 (1,685), we could reasonably expect to find well over 1,000 in Confederate military service.
Someone else can answer the question, but I would expect to find all or parts of 10-15 companies from Jackson County FL.
