Dale,

I received roughly ten notices that seemed to be responses to an earlier posting of mine from members of the group concerning black troops in Florida. It turns out they were all spam.

In studying the Trans-Mississippi in May-July 1864 I found that Grant and Halleck transferred all the veteran white troops they could grab from the posts out there and put them into the main efforts east of the Mississippi - and they replaced them with one hundred day militia and Black soldiers.

For example the garrison of Helena by July was almost entirely composed of black troops.

Is that what happened in Florida?I hope to buy your book when I get some money.

Bryce
