Re: Survivors of Company K, 6th Florida Infantry

Greetings! I was so thrilled to find this discussion thread. Angus McMillan is also my great grandfather. He is my father's father's father by Angus' second marriage to Emaline Kirkland. Colonel Horne is Angus' father in law by his first marriage to Jahaza Jane Horne. They are all buried in Chipley. I am planning a trip to Chipley with my 80 year old father - Finley Lamar McMillan - where his parents are also buried. I have been tracing Angus' history for years and have met almost every dead end. It will take divine intervention to discover his parentage. No one is my family recalls his parentage as Angus was 65 when my Papa was born. Angus's father died in the woods somewhere in between Washington County, Florida and was buried by a slave. The slave returned to tell the family but died before he could take the family to the site. I have traveled to Lumberton County, NC to look for records, but, you guessed it, nothing - a fire had destroyed any records that may have existed but the biggest issue was we're talking pre 1820. I have the McMillan Family bible that is written in Scottish language. the only comment inside is 1819 Malcolm McMillan. When you do the math, he can't be Angus' father. There is also a story of three McMillan brothers who immigrated to America together and split up. I have found this is a common story among families. The A.M. McMillan people speak of is not the same as Angus. Nor have I found a link to Alexander McMillan even though he lived in north Florida also. If anyone has any information on this line, PLEASE contact me. Michelle McMillan Kirby flordygirl2@yahoo.com
