Re: Men Surrendered at Tallahassee
In Response To: Men Surrendered at Tallahassee ()

Gerald, There were quite a few Georgia troops included in the surrender at Tallahassee. Some of these were men who had drifted down late in the war and showed up there to get their paroles. Others were members of the reserve unit assigned to guard the prison at Camp Sumter (Andersonville). This unit included many men from other Georgia regiments who had been wounded or otherwise disabled from service at the front. They went to Tallahassee after escorting the Andersonville prisoners to Jacksonville at the end of the war. Campbell's Siege Artillery, a Georgia unit, also surrendered there and there were also some men in the local hospitals at the end of the war.

Best,
Dale
