Bruce, Candler was actually one of the ones I ran down some time back when I looked into this. I was trying to figure out why a number of Georgia reserves showed up with Tallahassee as their last post and was curious as to whether they had been sent down after the Battle of Natural Bridge. It turned out they were Andersonville prison guards who had escorted the prisoners to catch the train to Jacksonville at the end of the war. I am still curious as to what happened to the black troops the Confederates were training at Camp Sumter. They are mentioned in several accounts during the month or so before the end of the war, but just disappear. I assume they were sent home.
