Dr. Schafer's "Thunder on the River" is a great book and one that has been needed for a long time. I own a copy of the much earlier Schafer/Martin book on Jax during the war years and it is a classic, but hard to locate (I think it is also the only Civil War book I've ever seen with pastel illustrations).
