Jeff,

I've done a search for his burial site, since I first started looking for him. If he is buried in any of the North Georgia or Chattanooga area Confederate cemeteries, he is "unknown". Some other family members and I believe he is buried on the "old homestead" in Stevenson, Alabama, due to a note in a Willoughby family file in the Knoxville, TN library. Apparently, the note states (I have not seen it.) that a relative visited the old Willoughby place after the Civil War. They described the house in a state of abandonment and disrepair. They specifically noted two (2) recent graves near the house. The writer presumed they were the graves of Volney and Melinda MASTERSON Willoughby, his wife. I believe they were the graves of Volney and Monroe Willoughby, his oldest son, who died of disease in the fall/winter of 1862. Monroe was a member of the 17th Tennessee Infantry, Co. I. I don't know how I could ever find these graves, unless I could find the remains of the old homestead and then use some sort of ground-penetrating radar to discover the location of these graves.
