Memorial Day 2011 Dedication Ceremony

The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, in conjunction with the Tallahassee Historical Society, invite the public to the Memorial Day 2011 Dedication Ceremony of the Veterans Administration of the Civil War Memorial Stone honoring Major Edmund Cottle Weeks (1829-1907), Commanding Officer of the 2nd Florida (U.S.) Cavalry at Cedar Key, Fl. (1864-1865), Lieutenant Governor of Florida (1870), Leon County Commissioner (1871-1874), Leon County Commissioner (1871-1874), Leon County Sheriff (1874-76), State Representative, Leon County (1876-1878), Postmaster, Tallahassee (1879-1890), U.S. Marshall of Florida (1890-1903), Surveyor General of Florida (1903-1905).

Event to be held on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011, at 4 p.m., at the Old City Cemetery, M.L. King Blvd., at Park Ave., in Tallahassee Florida.

Professor Roy Thomas Dye, Major Edmund C. Weeks historian, will be one of the speakers.

Re-enactors from the 2nd USCT Infantry, 54th MA Infantry, SUVCW Veterans Reserve, Sons of Confederate Veterans will participate. Civilians in period dress are encouraged to attend.
