2nd Regiment, Florida Cavalry

2nd Cavalry Regiment was organized with 1,190 men during the late spring of 1862. Its members were from Melton and Tallahassee, and the counties of St. John, Marion, Gadsden, and Madison. The unit was attached to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and served in Florida throughout the war. It fought at Olustee, Gainesville, and Braddock's Farm, and surrendered at Tallahassee on May 10, 1865. Colonel Caraway Smith, Lieutenant Colonel Abner H. McCormick, and Major Robert Harrison were in command.

May 3.— Company muster-in roll of Captain W. E. Chambers'
Company, "Marion Dragoons," Confederate States Army,
enlisted at Gainesville, Florida May 3, 1862 by Captain Cham-
bers for two years, unless sooner discharged, from September 12, 1861, the date of the original muster of the company.

I certify, on honor, that I have carefully examined the men
whose names are borne on this roll, their horses and equipments,
and have accepted them into the service of the Confederate States
for the term of two years, unless sooner discharged.
