This isn't the kind of information one hopes to discover about their relatives but from what I have read, this was typical toward the end of the war. The three of them were in fact born in Conecuh County and later moved to Baldwin County. This information certainly answers a lot of questions for me. I had always heard that Asa White had been killed in action, death by disease (hepatitis) is a new introduction to his cause of death. I have to wonder if Joseph's cause of AWOL may have been his death at the hands of relatives or acquaintences since his home was in the vicinity of the battle site at Blakeley and he was actively involved in that battle. His AWOL or no-pay status is very coincindental to the date of the battle.
