Sharon, thanks for the response. Re: Barbara Martin, I'm not surprised you are acquainted -- its a small pool (pun intended ;-)
Your remarks about the 1st FL Cav USA are spot on. I'm pretty sure the truth lies somewhere between the facts and the fiction, the history and the legend. Btw, I am enjoying reading your NW FL blog and about the Oak Grove community. Our family roots are south of there near the Milligan Baptist Church. My great grandfather A.L. Garrett, owned and operated the mill there on Old River Road just north of town, his daddy Jack operated the ferry close to where Hwy 98 corsses the Yellow River. Alford's wife was a Wilkinson, "Uncle Alf" and "Aunt Levee" were my G'Grandparents (see photo below of the old Milligan house with Ma & Pa Garrett and the boys. My grandfather, "Rube" Garrett is third from rt.). Family lore has it there's a Barrow in the woodpile somewhere, but have not discovered that...as yet!
Old River Road is my favorite route in these parts, it speaks volumes of history to me just riding down it. Have been to Oak Grove in my ramblings and well recall the shady lane and your little church.
Thanks for all you do and the research you continue to share. You write well!
