How did the cavalry fight in Florida?

In 1864 the cavalry of both sides sometimes fought on foot behind newly erected breastworks. This was true of both the war in Virginia and during Shermans Georgia campaigns.

how did the union and confederate cavalry fight in Florida. Did they fight as mounted infantry? Or did they fight like conventional cavalry, on horseback with pistol and saber and sometimes on foot with rifle or carbine?
