That pretty well sums it up! Look how much Quantrill and his raiders are vilified for Lawrence, Kansas. Innocent grown men were killed there but along Sherman's route innocent slaves and old men were immediately hung and shot. Innocent women and their children were left to the elements and starvation. Winder and Wirz did not have one thousandth of the resources that Hoffman had yet Southeners died by the thousands in Northern prisons. You can bet though that some "descendant of a Confederate soldier" (yeah, right!) will write in to defend both the S.O.B. Hoffman and the S.O.B. Sherman. I call them "Hounds of Hell" in my book and that was much too nice a term for either fiend!
