Thomas Co. men in McIntosh Co. Unit

Captain Brailsford's Mounted Rifles

The 5th Georgia Cavalry was made up of men from east Georgia, but for some reason Co. H (McIntosh Co.) lists a number of men from Thomas County on it's roster. I have been unable to establish why so many men from Thomas Co. would join a McIntosh Co. cavalry troop. I know many planters who own homes in McIntosh Co. at the time, also owned land in Thomas Co. Could this be the link?

I have found reference that men who did not have horses or equipment when the company was organized were provided for by a Planter who lived in McIntosh County.

Another interesting fact is the Mounted Rifles used the 3 band Enfield rifle.
