One of my students has been working up an application to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He has displayed surprising determination for a youngster in rooting out and logging the necessary information. He has worked his family lineage back and has found his ancestor (actually one of a tremendous number of Sumners who served in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina regiments), Jesse C. Sumner (my student's g-g-g-g-uncle and namesake) of the 49th Georgia Infantry.
Would anyone out there have information enough on the 49th Georgia that would give Jesse C. Sumner's parent Company and enlistment/discharge information?
Any information sure would be helpful.
