Isaiah Smith Co. F 11th Ga. Cav.

I’m trying to determine if any of
> these are my ancestor. Below are the 3 I’ve found and
> the story of my Isaiah.
>
> Isaiah Smith Co. K 10th Georgia Infantry
>
> Isaiah Smith Co. F 11th Georgia Cavalry
>
> Isaiah Smith Co. K 31st Georgia Infantry (I’ve
> determined this isn’t him but their probably related)

> My Great Great Grandfather, Isaiah Smith (jr) was born
> in Georgia about 1816. He was known to have older
> brothers named Eason and John W. These Smiths were
> from the area around Dooly and Houston counties. I
> believe their father was named Isaiah (Sr) as well. I
> have located an Isaiah Smith, born about 1785, on the
> 1830 Houston census that I assume is their father. I
> first find my g-g-grandfather on the 1840 Jefferson
> County, Florida census. He is a single man, age 20-25,
> living with two women about the same age, that I
> assume are sisters. I have found military records on
> Isaiah Smith in Florida that show he served the full
> length of the Seminole War from 1836 to 1845, rising
> to the rank of corporal. There are a few small breaks
> in service; these are Florida Militia records, not
> regular US army. Isaiah is also found on the 1844
> Jefferson county voters roll. About 1846 Isaiah
> returned to Georgia. In 1847 he married Permelia
> Hathcock (records in Florida show her as Amelia), in
> Dooly County. The family is on the 1850 Dooly census.
> Their first two sons, Henry (1848) and Richard (1850)
> are born there. About 1851 the family returns to
> Florida. Isaiah is listed as a voter in the new county
> of Manatee in 1855. Also, he served in the Seminole
> war of 1856/1857. The rest of Isaiah and Amelia’s
> children were born in Florida. They were: Griffin
> (1853), Anne (1855), William (1858), Needham (1861)
> and Isabelle (1867). There are no Confederate records
> on any Florida units for an Isaiah Smith. Because of
> the gap between Needham and Isabelle I believe Isaiah
> may have went back to Georgia to serve in the War.
> Isaiah and family are on the 1860 Manatee Fl census,
> 1870 Orange Fl census, and the 1880 Manatee Fl census.
> Isaiah died in 1884 and his wife died about 1892.
>
> I’m most interested in the Isaiah Smith, Co. F 11th
> Georgia Cavalry. This is because my g-g-grandfather’s
> service during the Seminole Wars was with the Florida
> Mounted Volunteers (Cavalry). I’ve seen where the 11th
> Cavalry was raised in Berrian County and if I read old
> maps correctly, Berrian and Dooly Counties were
> neighboring counties at the time of the war.
