I believe you are looking for Private Reuben F. Schumpert of the "Sumter Flying Artillery." He enlisted on July 30, 1861 at Americus, Georgia (age 19) and died of typhoid on September 1, 1861 while the unit was camped at Manassas Junction, Virginia.

I have located three letters that he wrote home during the very short time that he was in the Confederate army. Please contact me for additional information.
