Re: family tree research

Dear Sir,

If you know the county in which he resided in the 1860 Census that may be able to provide us a clue. There are several Benjamin Williams on my list for Georgia troops and that would help me narrow down the unit.

The unit designation that your gave really does not make sense for a Confederate unit. It sounds more Federal. Regiments were usually the only numerical designation that Confederates used. In echelons above regiments, they used the commander's name to identify the brigade, division, or corps. This practice helped keep Longstreet from getting captured at Chickamauga. Where did you find this designation?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
