In Response To: 11th Georgia Infantry CSA ()

Butch,
The 11th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, was one of the Regiments in Gen. George T. ("Tige") Anderson's Brigade in Hood's (later Field's) Division of the Army of Northern Virginia. Anderson's Brigade was composed of the 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 59th Georgia Regiments. In 1861 and most of 1862, Anderson's Brigade also contained the 1st Georgia Regulars, the 1st Kentucky, and for a short time in 1862, the 10th Georgia Infantry Battalion (Ryelander). By Fredericksburg (Dec. of 1862), the 59th Ga. had replaced the 1st Ga. Regulars, the 1st Ky. and the 10th Ga. Batallion, and the 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 59th served together until Appomattox. There are two websites on "sister" Regiments of the 11th that will give you an idea of what they did, as they served in the same Brigade.

The 9th Georgia at:

The 8th Georgia at:

There is also a Brigade history in the works, with info being gathered by Henry Persons. Hope this helps..
