Re: Widow's claims CSA
In Response To: Widow's claims CSA ()

Dear Sir,

The widow of a Confederate soldier was entitled to the balance of his pay due, clothing allowance, and enlistment bonus. No soldier's insurance was available like it is today. If you review many of the Compiled Service Records you will find applications through the County Clerk to the Confederate Government for the balance of pay due. The states varied in what they did for widows. The state of Georgia allocated salt rations for widows and to families that lost sons. It was unable to logistically meet the demand.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
