Thanks Gary for your info on the Mell Scouts. John A Scroggs was my gg Grandfather and Newton was my gg uncle. My ggg Grandfather was JH (Joseph) Scroggs and could have been the person on the roster for Wyly's Co. He would have been 55 YOA in 1862 and due to age, chose to serve in the State Guard. He had two younger sons at the time of the Civil war, one being about 16 YOA who possibly stayed home to run the farm while he went off to war.
