Re: Resaca battlefield and reenactment

The reenactment is held as close as possible to the actual date of Battle in May. It is usually mid May. They do have the reenactment on the original land owned by the Chitwood family. I am from Dalton and know some of the Chitwoods. There is an interesting story there. One of the ladies I teach with married one of the Chitwood boys. As a kid he remembers his grandfather farming the land and uncovering part of a cannon. He wound up pushing it down a well because it was in the way of the crops. Now as an adult he could just kick himself. He has tried to remember where on the property it was and so far hasn't had any luck. He has used a metal detector but thinks the well is too deep for it to pick up.

The cemetery is very close to the battlefield you just have to know where to look for it. It is actually a very nice peaceful shaded place.
