Re: 7th GA regiment
In Response To: Re: 7th GA regiment ()

Hello Rollen,
Here is what Henderson's "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865" has:

MUSTER ROLL OF COMPANY B, 7th REGIMENT
GEORGIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA, C. S. A.
FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA

Brooks, Lewis P.------ private May 31, 1861 . Appointed 5th Sergeant September 2, 1861 . Elected Jr.2d Lieutenant May 12, 1862 ;2d Lieutenant August 1862 . Absent without leave January 30- February 28, 1865 . No later record.

This is only a bit of information, but you could obtain his CSA CMSR (Compiled Military Service Record) from the Archives in Atlanta, or use a service such as the sponsor at the top of this page. The 7th Georgia was one of the "sister" regiments in Gen. George T. ("Tige") Anderson's Brigade composed of the 1st Georgia Regulars and 1st Kentucky(until 1862), the 8th, 9th, and 11th Georgia Vounteer Infantry Regiments. The 59th Georgia replaced the 1st Ga. and 1st Ky. about the time of Fredericksburg and was with the Brigade until Appomattox. Anderson's Brigade of Georgians was in Hood's Division (later Field's) of Longstreet's I (first) Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. There is no website on the 7th (to my knowledge), but I maintain a site on the 9th Georgia, and Dave Larsen maintains a website on the 8th. You may want to scan these sites, as the 7th, 8th and 9th were in all their campaigns together (except the 7th missed Gettysburg, as they were detached to guard Hood's flanks as the other regiments of Anderson attacked the Wheatfield on 2 July, 1863).

The 9th's site is at :

The 8th's site is at:

I hope this has been helpful............
