Is there any information available on Colonel Sumner J. Smith of Smith's Legion. I know that the infantry battalion became the 65th Georgia Infantry and the cavalry became the 6th Georgia Cavalry. He resigned his commission on March 9, 1863, and died in 1869. I am just curious as to where he was born, buried, and why he resigned.
