W. R. Martin appears in records of Co. "I", 10th Confederate Cavalry Regiment. This was a Georgia company recruited in Lee and Dougherty Counties.
The modern-day community of Slocumb is located in Geneva County, Ala., near the Florida line. Records show that W. R. Martin enlisted at Lumpkin, Ga., during the summer of 1864. The soldier's widow, Arabella J. Martin, applied for a pension in Geneva County, Ala. All of the above suggests that Martin lived in Georgia during the war and moved to Alabama later.
