Lt. Greer - Unknown Regiment (Help solve a mystery

Found short article below in the Macon Daily Telegraph dated July 24, 1862.

Trying to find out what regiment Lt. Greer serve in. I assume he was stabbed in Macon either on furlough, or waiting for a regiment to muster. Wondering if this was a random act of violence, or if his regiment might have got in an argument with some of the local railroad crews? I've read somewhere (think it was the book on the 1st Georgia, but can't recall off the top of my head) that they were a rowdy bunch, and would sometimes get in fight with the regiments passing through the area. Any help is appreciated!

"We are pleased to learn that Lieut. Greer, stabbed a few nights since, is improving and likely to recover."
