Re: 7th Georgia Infantry flag
In Response To: 7th Georgia Infantry flag ()

Sirs:

I am sending you this although I expect that you already have it.

From the "Confederate Veteran' Magazine" September 1917:

"L. C. [Lemuel Chaffin] Downs, who served as sergeant of Company I, 7th Georgia Infantry, died at his home, in Savannah, Ga., on Dec. 9, 1916. This well-beloved comrad had been the custodian of the flag of his regiment since 1865. At the reunion of the survivors of this regiment, held in Grant Park, Atlanta, on July 21. 1917, his nephew, W. S. N. Neal of Maritta, presented the flag to the regiment, in memory of the comrad who had so long had it in its keeping"
L. C. Downs was my great uncle and I am presently researching his history. I would appreciate any information that you could send me about him.

Thank you, Jos. M. Downs
