You are talking about 3rd Sergeant William J. Whitehead, Co. "C", 44th Georgia Regiment. He was one of six men from this family (Aaron, Henry, James E., John J., Lewis and William J. Whitehead) who belonged to the company. Sgt. Whitehead lost a leg due to a wound recieved in the Battle of the Wilderness, Va., May 6, 1864.
