Alan,
I have been unable to locate a pension record. After the war he lived in Hot Spring -> Garland Counties in Arkansas and Dallas County in Texas. Arkansas has no pension record. Texas had a pension record but, it wasn't the James I was searching for. The only reference to his service as a Calvery Captian was as listed in my original post. Since his discharge was September 1864, I am looking for a Calvery Unit that was formed around that time. Either a Calvery Troop assigned to the 40th Infantry Regiment or a Seperate Calvery Regiment. I cam track the 40th through its Parole after Vicksburg but, the record seems lacking from Vicksburg to the end of the war.
Does anyone have access to:
********************************************************
Henderson, Lillian, ed., Georgia Confederate Pension and Record Office.
Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865.
Hapeville, GA: Longino & Porter, 1955-1958. (7 vols.)

?

I would have top travel 150 miles to look at a copy and would like to search for him in those rosters.

Thanks for the replies, Bill
