I really didn't point you in the right direction! Since you already know that he was a lieutenant with the Broyles' 36th Georgia and later Lieutenant Colonel of the 2nd Georgia Reserves (1864-65), that should explain the uniform.

If you're interested, copies of his military record with these two commands can be obtained by clicking on the link at the top of this page. Enter the two units mentioned along with the officer's name there.
