Re: GA 16th Partisan Ranger Battalion

Terri --

I believe you'e asking about Clayton, Ga., not Clayton County, Ga. On March 1, 1863, six recruits were accepted in Company "C", the "Weaver Rangers". Five gave Clayton as their place of enlistment, the sixth named Dahlonega. These two towns are found in the northeast corner of the state, and that's where all six probably lived.

Other than these five, no one else in the battalion listed Clayton as a place of enlistment.

One other note -- the battalion served briefly under Morgan's command during the summer of 1862. For most of the rest of the war, the battalion served under orders of Brig. Gen. John C. Vaughn.
