One of the best places to locate information on your ancestor is the Doles Cook Brigade by Henry Thomas. Morningside Press reprinted this book back in 1988. This is a great deal of information on the 4th, 12th, 21th and 44th Georgia Regiments. I am fortunate in that I have an original and the reprint. My great grandfather was in the 12th Georgia and a member of the Doles Cook Brigade. I dont know the county where your ancestor enlisted but that county seat should have information on your great grandfathers activities. you can also check the local historical association where he enlisted.
